The Candidates Tournament determines the challenger for the World Chess Championship

The Candidates Tournament is a chess tournament organized by FIDE since 1950, as the final contest to determine the challenger for the World Chess Championship. The winner of the Candidates earns the right to a match for the World Championship against the incumbent World Champion.

Qualification and format

The eight players qualify to the Tournament as follows: one player who lost the 2014 World Chess Championship match, two winners of the World Cup, two winners of the Grand Prix series, two players by rating and one is nominated by the organizers. Prize fund for the event (including the FIDE fee) is EUR534,000.  Format: Double round robin tournament (14 rounds)
